Last week the work was about the election and its aftermath.

Monday or Tuesday, I heard about the Trump surrogate's gaffe, the one who wasn't quite sure about how to say Molotov cocktail, so I riffed on that making it a much more festive and ethnic incendiary device—in her words, the “Mazel Tov Cocktail!” L'chaim!

With  Trump's unexpected election victory and a near complete defeat of the DNC across the country, a lot of folks got the stuffing knocked out of them last week, which, taken in with the passing of David Bowie, Alan Rickman, Prince, and then the day after the election gahddamn Leonard Cohen!, the case could be made that 2016 has been one nasty year.

As more details emerged about just how and why America voted, it seemed clear to many—though impossible to ever prove—that there could have been a very different election. I'm progressive, which should be pretty forward-looking, so not to live in the past, but, It Shoulda Been Bernie. I had to make this design even if only to wear for myself, though happily, only a couple days at my Teepublic shop and it's a best-seller!

I opened a new artists shop at Threadless (storefronts now on Teepublic, RedBubble, and Society6), which meant a custom banner graphic. I continued to deploy the “Trump-y” branding I established before the election, though I'm not sure if it's now more funny or less, as the new president is “triggering” lots of folks. For now, though, I'm keeping it. I also needed a “Shop photo” which is sort of a larger icon for elsewhere around the site—I went with the Nasty Year design because, well, red.

Lastly, I made up a new Twitter cover photo and icon. I wanted something that put forward more of my work for sale—if you don't tell people you're selling something how will they ever know to buy?—but I have mixed feelings about these, torn between promoting my work for sale and not looking too commercial. They err too much toward the later, I feel, and while I've resisted urges to go back to my previous 30 Rock-inspired background which was more personal and authentic, but which contained no suggestion of any sort of commercial activity was possible, I can't say I'll not change this again this week. I'll keep working to find the right balance.
